Tots Play is a local company that offers baby and toddler classes and is run by Michaela Slater. Michaela's husband, Matt has been a member of Bordon Petanque Club for many years and suggested that the new Dads may enjoy an afternoon away from nappies and bottles, playing the game he loves. So, on Saturday, July 26th, a lively group of twelve participants gathered at The Pavilion at BOSC.
The sun was shining, the terrain was prepared, and the atmosphere buzzed with excitement. With three timed games, the competition transformed from a casual gathering into a spirited contest for pride and bragging rights.
As players arrived, the bar quickly became a social hub - surprise, surprise as they don't get out much!. Many (or do I mean all?) enjoyed a refreshing pint before heading onto the terrains. However, as the games kicked off, the players’ focus shifted fully to the petanque balls.
While the competition was fierce, the afternoon also served as an excellent opportunity for participants to connect - it's usually the Mum's that get together so this was a real treat!
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many players expressing eagerness for a repeat event. Interestingly, a light-hearted debate arose: Was it the allure of the bar or the thrill of playing petanque that made the day so enjoyable?
Celebrating the Champion
Among the twelve players, Tom Southgate emerged as the day's champion. He won all three of his matches and achieved the highest score overall. Matt came second and Max was third. Lee ended up what we call in the petanque world "the friendliest player" which actually means he came last, but hey ho, he said he had a good day.
Tom did confess to having played bowls previously, so this probably helped! Tom's performance earned him a coveted prize: a certificate to proudly display on his fridge!
To capture the essence of this lively event, photographs were taken to commemorate the day. Here are some highlights from the afternoon:
Many thanks to Frank, Chris and Colin for helping on the day and to Matt and Michaela Slater for initiating this event Rumour has it, they'll be back!.
