We all go a Kurling

It was another wonderful evening organised by our social committee, Lesley, Janice, Chris G, Rosemary, Tina, Janine and led by the awesome Alison. Tina was our Master of Ceremonies and kept the evening flowing by calling the pairs to the floor and keeping score on her master flip chart!

Our players were put/sorted/selected into random pairs and each pair had 4 stones - 2 each. The winners red or blue was the team who won the best of 3 heads. It's certainly not as easy as it looks and I'm told about 80% if the stones didn't quite make or went whizzing past the target! Roger, at the end of the table, had to move pretty quickly to avoid a broken ankle!

There were some excellent shots from many but especially Ian and Mike B. Chris G managed a great result with a stone that shot her opponents stones out to give her the win. Sitting at tables next to the target was a bit risky and some of the stones looked like they would end up in Arford they were pushed so hard!

With the evening being a knockout, the more we played, the better we got. Neil helped a couple of stones along when he got the broom out and did a bit of sweeping and Paul had a bit of success when he 'filled in a divot or two' 🤣. There were quite a few players 'giving their partner the line,' and Allan kept telling everyone there was a slope right to left!

So in a tense final between Roger and Isobel using the red stones v Alison and Lesley with blue stones, the victorious pair were R&I but only because Alison played her last stone and knocked Rogers stone into the winning position! You'll be pleased to know that Lesley is still friends with Alison!

As for the ploughman's, well you can see from the photos below, it was a feast. No-one went home hungry, a choice of 3 cheeses, pate, salad, pickles, - I've never seen so many French sticks (and they all went)! Chris did a grand job being Nell Gwyn with her basket of apples.

It was a really enjoyable evening to which everyone contributed - thanks everyone - what a great club.
