We have one junior member at Bordon, Zac Kelly-Lord, so you can imagine how proud we all were when he was selected to be part of the Southern region squad going to Weston-Super-Mare. Zac has only been playing for just over a year but with his own determination to learn and play well, coaching from Andy Barron and the encouragement of his family, this is quite an achievement. We asked Zac to tell us a bit about his experience of playing 5 games, two days running in a major competition. With 19 regions taking part and well over 900 players, this could have been a daunting prospect but he went in with all guns blazing and here's his report:
"After a good nights rest, Lewis, Sasha and I, competing as Southern 3, set out on Saturday hoping to just do our best. We managed to win 2 out of 3 by lunchtime and ended the day with 4 wins out of 5. There were some tough matches but we bonded together well and felt very pleased with our first days play. Going into the evening we had a smile on our faces and enjoyed some of the in house entertainment and a few of us went out and had a game of football.
Sunday morning saw an early start and after breakfast, we went out to the terrains hoping to match our success of the previous day. We won 2 out of 3 games in the morning which was not a bad start. The weather was against us and we had to face extremely tough conditions in the afternoon, with most pistes looking more like ponds! After a tough 4th game we then managed an excellent winning score of 13-1. This was against the eventual winners, who we lost to on the first day, so we were very excited and pleased with our performance, getting our own back, and finishing runners up in our division. All in all it was an excellent weekend. I am honoured to have competed for my region and hopefully I can do it again next year!"
Thanks for your report Zac and all of us at BPC will support you all the way on your quest for qualification for the IR 2026 competition.
