Headley & Bordon PC Good Friday Open Triples

We held our first competition, the traditional Good Friday Open Triples, at our new terrain in Headley on Friday 3 April. It was touch and go for a while as it was only finished and handed over to the club 3 days beforehand.
With four different playing surfaces, some players found the very stony terrains challenging with much debate as to their suitability but the requests to leave them as they are, far outweighed those wishing us to change them. Time and the weather will pay a big part, so at least for the moment, we intend to go with the majority and leave them to settle, They may need adjusting in the coming months but we will see.
Back to the day, and what a successful day it was. There were 32 teams, with players coming from several different regions in the south and from as far as Wales.
We had the usual three 50 minute timed games in the morning. with teams qualifying for a seeded knockout competition in the afternoon. This was split into Gold, Silver and Bronze levels with consolage's for those knocked out in the first rounds.
It was a shame that the weather wasn't better and we did get slightly damp but seasoned petanaquers are tough, determined and everyone soldiered on.
The Gold Final was played between Team Ellis - James and Leo, together with Steve Daiken versus Team Casanis - Ameen Miah, Phil Bradshaw and Mark Gay and it was a thrilling match right to the end.
This year's champions were James, Leo and Steve. With James and Leo being members of our own club in the Gold Winning Team, this was extra special.

Thank you everyone who supported us during the day buying drinks and raffle tickets, it was great to see so many friends and receive so many positive compliments regarding our new home. So now to the full results:

Here are photos of some of the other winners with apologies to those I didn't manage to catch everyone before they went home. Various shots taken during the day also attached.
Thanks to all of our club members who helped put the gazebos together (and take them down again), set up and manage the tea and coffee station and ran the raffle. What a club!
